Admissions – Frequently Asked Questions

We are a co-educational day only school with no attached nursery

What is the structure of the school?

Our ‘Pre-Prep’ comprises Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 (ages 4-7).  Our ‘Prep’ School (often known as the Senior School) is from Years 3-8 (ages 7-13).

What age do children start at?

The majority of our children join our Reception classes at age 4, but children can join into other year groups, provided spaces are available.

Is there a feeder nursery into Spratton Hall?

We take children from many different nurseries throughout Northamptonshire and Leicestershire.  There is no one particular feeder nursery.

What age do your pupils leave?

Pupils leave at age 13 to go on to their chosen senior school.

What are the main senior schools you feed into?

Our most popular destination schools are Rugby, Oakham, Oundle, Uppingham and Wellingborough but we also feed into many other schools including Kimbolton, Stowe, Malvern College and Northampton High School.

Who do I contact to arrange a visit?

Please contact Mrs Sarah Church, Registrar, on 01604 847292 or email registrar@sprattonhall.com and she will be pleased to arrange a time for you to visit us.

Will I meet the Head Master on our first visit?

Most definitely.  You will spend time with the Head Master chatting about your child(ren) and the school over tea or coffee and he will then give you a personal tour of the school.

What is included in the fees?

Practically everything, the exceptions are school uniform, individual music/singing lessons, Breakfast Club and some school trips.  There is occasionally a small charge for a club, usually when an external professional is taking the club.

What is the earliest I can drop my child off at school?

The school opens for Breakfast Club (optional) at 7.45 am.  Pre-Prep children need to be accompanied by a parent in breakfast.  If a child is not having breakfast they can be dropped off at 8.10 am.

What is the latest pick-up time?

There are several pick-up times.  The Pre-Prep finish at 3.30 pm but children can stay in the Pre-Prep until 5.20 pm.  Prep School lessons finish at 4.00 pm.  There is then an hour of clubs and activities from 4.20 pm until 5.20pm.  We then operate a further after school care service until 6.00 pm.

Do you offer school lunches?

Yes, lunch is cooked fresh on the premises and all pupils have lunch.  This is included in the fees.  All catering is provided by the school, including morning and afternoon drinks and snacks.

What is the ratio between girls and boys?

The ratio is usually around 50/50.  At present, it is 49% girls and 51% boys.

As you are a Christian school, do you accept other religions?

The school is registered as a Church of England school and we welcome families of all faiths and none.

Do you offer transport to school?

We provide morning transport in our school minibuses, with one route from Northampton and another route from Market Harborough.  Please see the School Transport section in Admissions for more information.
