Located on the first floor of the main Pre-Prep building, on either side of the galleried landing, the Year Two classrooms are spacious, colourful and inviting.
With the emphasis remaining on enjoyment, the children continue to be supported as individuals, progressing at their own pace, with differentiated activities aimed at reinforcing, developing and challenging their thinking, whilst still encouraging independence, imagination and a passion for learning.
Literacy and Numeracy concepts continue to be strengthened and extended daily, with frequent opportunities for the pursuit of creative and topic based learning. Topic themes such as ‘The Antarctica’, ‘The Human Body’ and ‘Life in Victorian Times’ are explored each term and enable children to further develop their skills, knowledge and understanding in Science, R.S., History and Geography.
Benefitting from a broad based curriculum, the children continue to be taught by specialist tutors for Drama, Computing, P.E., Games, Music and French. A good variety of enrichment opportunities are also provided through trips to venues such as theatres, historic sites, museums, working farms and country parks. Visitors are regularly welcomed into Year 2 and include outside speakers from charities such as the NSPCC and ‘people who help us’ such as authors, surgeons, dentists and nutritionists.
In addition to tennis and ballet, extra-curricular activities in Year Two extend to include Year Two Choir and Ocarina Club
In Year Two, nurturing children’s confidence, their self-belief, and a consideration for others in a positive and supportive environment remains central to the teaching and learning, as children continue their learning journey through to the end of Pre-Prep and into the Prep School at Year Three.
