Autumn Term 2009

Tuesday, 8th September - Years 6, 7 & 8 enjoyed a visit from the '2-Steves', authors Steve Barlow & Steve Skidmore. They recounted amusing tales of previous school visits and explained how they write their books as well as gave useful tips and suggestions for the pupils' own writing. www.the2steves.net

Wednesday, 16th September - We had a fabulous day when author, Meg Harper, visited Years 3, 4 and 5. The extracts she read were inspirational. Year 5’s workshop focused on developing ‘cool characters’, Year 4 worked on how to plan a story and Year 3 had fun planning a story about their perfect pet. The children are now taking their ideas away and entering our competition to create a short story using the methods they have learned from Meg. www.megharper.co.uk

Monday, 9th November - Year 8 visited the Beth Shalom Holocaust Centre in Newark. The visit certainly helped their understanding and background knowledge of the Year 8 novel, John Boyne's The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. www.holocaustcentre.net

Tuesday, 24th November - The Young Shakespeare Company made their annual visit to Spratton, performing to and working with Years 5-8. They performed Macbeth - one of the Bard's greatest tragedies and they led a workshop with the pupils. www.youngshakespeare.org.uk
