This is an excellent site for explaining history in a very clear way.  The text is short and to the point and there are lots of pictures to bring it to life.  If you are looking to research facts this is a good place to start.

In the Activities and Learning Resources section you can design your own Bayeux Tapestry in either a single scene or many, depending on how adventurous you feel.

Battle of Hastings:

Play the game to re-enact the Battle of Hastings, which took place on 14 October, 1066.  You can choose to play as either William of Harold.  There is lots of information about 1066 and the Battle of Hastings on this site.
