Once we arrived, we were greeted by Mr Guise and went into the Planetarium. There, we were shown all of the seasonal skies. We saw many constellations and even the Milky Way! We held an iron meteorite too! It was actually really heavy and sort of smelled unearthly. It was hard to believe that we were not looking at the sky, but the roof of the building. After the planetarium, we went to the actual observatory, but it was too windy and cloudy to open the roof. Instead, we had a talk about the planets and were shown pictures. Then we went outside to use the smaller telescopes and, although there were still clouds, we had a great time. We saw the North Star (Polaris), which is actually a binary star, which means there are two and also got a close up of the moon! We saw the Seven Sisters (there are a lot more!) and were taught a trick to find the North Star. Afterwards, we were taken to a boarding house for pizza before boarding the minibus back to Spratton.
The trip was awesome and I would love to go again. I really learnt a lot and it was fascinating learning all about space.
