On Thursday 28th March, the Years 7&8 Production Club put on a performance of ‘Welcome to Blanting’. In this humorous play, the town of Blanting-on-Sea has become tired and outdated as a seaside resort, resulting in holidaymakers no longer visiting. To add to this, the bored younger people in the town become interested in graffiti art, or ‘tagging’, as they call it. Furthering the town’s decline, graffiti begins appearing on the sea-front!
The cast performed excellently in what was a very ‘wordy’ play. The humour really came across, with many of the cast displaying a great ability to play humorous characters. Sophie Lloyd, Edward Bradnam, Jack Fletcher-Stables, Georgina Hunt and Pippa Hemsley were excellent in the lead roles and they were admirably supported by the rest of the cast. Hugh Garson’s performance of the string-obsessed mayor was particularly memorable, as was Elle Hiller’s old lady, Enid, who received many of the laughs. The lighting, backdrops and sound also really added to a hugely enjoyable evening. Thanks to the cast for all their hard work this year in Production Club.
