Encouraging independence and a passion for learning
In Year 2 the emphasis remains on enjoyment. We understand that each child is a unique blend of talents, interests, skills and characteristics and continue to tailor the learning to meet their needs. The children continue to be supported as individuals, progressing at their own pace, with differentiated activities aimed at reinforcing, developing and challenging their thinking, whilst still encouraging independence, imagination and a passion for learning.
Curriculum
Literacy and Numeracy concepts continue to be strengthened and extended, with frequent opportunities for the pursuit of creative and topic based learning. Topic themes such as ‘Explorers’, ‘The Rainforest’ and ‘Back to the Future’ are explored each term and enable children to further develop their skills, knowledge and understanding in Science, R.S., History and Geography.
Benefitting from a broad based curriculum, the children continue to be taught by specialist tutors for Drama, Computing, P.E., Dance, Games, Music and French.
Sport
The children start to learn skills and basic game play in hockey, rugby, netball, football and cricket – ready for when they enter the Prep-School in Year 3 and start playing competitive sport.
Trips and Enrichment
A good variety of enrichment opportunities are also provided through trips to venues such as theatres, the SnowDome and Cadbury World. Visitors are regularly welcomed into Year 2 and include outside speakers from charities such as the NSPCC and Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Extra Curricular
In addition to tennis and ballet, extra-curricular activities in Year 2 extend to include Year Two Choir and Ocarina Club.
Prep School
By the end of Year 2 the children are ready and excited to move into the Prep School in Year 3 and to enjoy all the extra activities and privileges that the move brings.
