Year 2 2019-2020
In Year 2 the children have been using a whole range of practical equipment to bring Maths to life! They have used clocks to tell the time and bead strings to help answer number problems. They even created a giant number line, jumping along it to solve addition and subtraction number calculations.
One afternoon, the children in 2H had a special visit from Mrs. Wilson, who came to share a book that she has written. It is called A Frogitt’s Tale and tells the story of magical creatures who live in a beautiful woodland. The children loved listening to the adventure and were able to look at the beautiful artwork and models that Mrs Wilson has created to accompany her story.
What a wonderful start to the school year the children have made. New routines have been introduced and the children are enjoying getting to know their new classrooms and teachers. With gum shields, hockey sticks and rugby shirts to hand, Year 2 have been experiencing Games lessons for the first time. Creative Music is also a new area of the curriculum that the children are thoroughly enjoying. The opportunity to gain hands on experience with a variety of instruments such as Boomwhackers has been met with great excitement. With lots to look forward to this term, I am sure the children will make the most of every opportunity that comes their way.
Our Pre-Prep Christmas Nativities are always a highlight of our school year.
Year 2, gave an amazingly brilliant performance of ‘Hay Presto’, an
ex-‘straw’-dinary tale of some stable animals who stockpile their hay and stand guard to prevent it from being eaten by all the other animals suddenly arriving in Bethlehem. However, when a young couple and a very weary donkey arrive they soon have a change of heart, as they realise that sharing with others brings the greatest joy of all.
With a host of festive songs, including some beautiful solos from the kings and innkeepers, and some heart-felt and enthusiastic performances from the children, our Year 2 children absolutely kick-started the magic of Christmas.
