Year 2 2020 – 2021
The Wonderful World of Phonics!
In Pre-Prep, we are passionate about the way in which we teach Phonics. Phonics is an essential part of every child’s learning journey and is key to their development within reading, writing and spelling. From split digraphs, to sound buttons and pseudo words, Phonics can be fascinating, entertaining and at times, quite bizarre! Therefore, we have put together this e-book to explain, demystify and provide you with a glimpse of the wonderful array of phonetic skills, vocabulary, knowledge and activities that we immerse your children in every day.
In Year 2 we have awarded our first set of pen licences. These children are able to write using neat, joined, consistently sized letters and their work is beautiful. We have awarded these pen licences earlier than usual and this shows how brilliantly the children are doing with their handwriting. Huge congratulations to them all!
The children in Year 2 are learning about non-fiction texts. As part of this work, they were given the challenge of making a diagram of our Forest School. They researched this task by visiting the Forest School and making a plan. When the children returned to class, they made their diagram, thinking about careful drawings and labels to show clearly each part of the Forest School.
In Year 2 the children have been creating their own self-portraits. They used mirrors to look closely at their faces and then they created their artwork with pencils and pastels. Their portraits are beautiful!
