FROM THE HEADMASTER

Captains of Sport

I am delighted to announce Sports Captains for this term: Captain of Netball – Isla Wallace; Vice-Captain – Amelie Inman and Captain of Boys’ Hockey – Lewis Toms; Vice-Captain – Henry Sandall. Congratulations to all of them and I wish them and all the teams the very best for the season ahead.

Isla, Amelie and the rest of the 1st VII Netball team enjoyed a flying start to the season on Monday by winning the Stowe Netball Tournament. Well done, girls.

The Pied Piper

Huge congratulations to all of Year 4 for their wonderful performance last night.  It was clear for all to see that the children were thoroughly enjoying themselves on the stage just as much as the audience were watching them.  It was such a high standard of acting and singing.  Very well done to them and, of course, to Mrs Hanford, Mr Wilson, Miss Govier and the team for all their hard work.

Science Week

I do hope the children have enjoyed the activities laid on this week.  No doubt you will have enjoyed some of the photos shared on our social media pages.  As I write, members of Year 8 are heading down to London to attend the BETT show, which I am sure they will thoroughly enjoy.

Next Week

It is always a great pleasure to see the breadth of activities that the children can enjoy at Spratton.  Following on from Science Week, I am sure the children in Years 3 to 6 will enjoy the Dance Workshops taking place on Monday.  At the same time, Year 2 are heading to the Snowdome in Tamworth, where I am sure they will enjoy a fun day on the slopes. We also have the first of the house cross-country races with Years 3 & 4 on Thursday at 2.55pm on the lower fields – parents welcome, as always.

Do enjoy the weekend.

PRE-PREP

Wandering through the Pre-Prep classrooms this week has felt like a journey of discovery and delight.  In Reception, little hands triumphantly waved pieces of paper at me, each one covered with the wonderfully brave attempts of spelling words independently – it was ‘he, me, we, be, she’ this week!

Across the playground and into Year 1, I am tugged on my sleeve and led over to a beautifully ornate image of Tutankhamun, emblazoned in gold and surrounded by whimsical Egyptian mummies that the children have created of themselves.  “Can you guess which one is mine?” I am asked as a finger eagerly jabs at the cotton wool bandages of one of the mummies.

Finally, upstairs in Year 2, the children are deeply absorbed in their learning as I pause, mesmerised beneath a canopy of Chinese New Year lanterns and decorations.

One lap of the Pre-Prep is never enough; I am always left wanting to start again and soak up a little more of the magic!

All Aboard in Reception!

There has been no end of Forest School fun for our children this week – the tell-tale muddy coats being a good indication!

After reading and enjoying The Train Ride by June Crebbin, RG headed off into our leafy woodlands on an exciting hunt for hidden train tickets. Scooping them up with great excitement, the children discovered that each ticket contained the very keywords they have been focusing on in class this week.  What a surprise!

Meanwhile in RY, the children took on a problem-solving, hands-on challenge, searching for twigs of different lengths and working out how best to bind them together to create their very own Stick Man, inspired by the much-loved Julia Donaldson story.

 Pupil Achievements

Congratulations to Reuben Lofts who was awarded the ‘Spirit’ accolade at the U7s rugby festival held at the Saints.  Representing qualities such as sportsmanship, pride, teamwork and respect, it was a wonderful honour for Reuben to have been chosen for this award.

Further congratulations go to Emilia Docker who gained two medals in recognition of her effort when swimming the front crawl and backstroke.

Last Sunday, Spratton Hall Equestrian took part in the final qualifier of the Bloxham Eventer Series. Riders Eef, Annabelle, Ottilie, Isabelle and Flo all had brilliant rides. A special congratulations go to Flo, who competed for the first time in this discipline on her new pony and won the 80cm section—a fantastic achievement in her debut in a huge class. Thanks to the whole team’s efforts, Spratton Hall Equestrian finished an impressive 3rd place overall.

We look forward to building on this success at the championships in a few weeks!
