XLCR

Standing for Excellence (X), Leadership (L), Community (C) and Resilience (R), XLCR has been established to recognise, celebrate and reward the accomplishments of pupils in Years 7 and 8, both within and outside the school environment.

In parallel to similar award schemes run in senior schools, pupils are awarded points for every contribution they make to school and community life. This can include: academic successes, sporting involvement, clubs and activities, art and musical accomplishments, drama performances, house contributions, commitment to charitable events and trip and tour attendance. The number of points they receive in these two years then determines whether they receive a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum XLCR Award on their final speech day.

The points pupils receive are logged against the four categories in a specially designed booklet, where they can easily see which XLCR areas they are naturally excelling in, and which they may need to build upon.  The booklet itself is also a useful tracking tool that pupils can take to senior schools during visits and interviews, as a catalogue of their achievements.

Throughout their time in Year 7 and 8, the pupils, will be given the opportunity to take part in events that have been specifically designed to reflect their status in the school and help them increase their XLCR credits. Schemes such as supporting the school’s Pre-Prep, greater involvement in House administration, and additional trips and visits, will all generate provide opportunities for pupils to grow their skills and experiences. Pupils can also reference their exploits outside of school, so that these can be considered for additional credits.

Pupils can log their points under the four separate categories that make up the XLCR award. These categories are Excellence, Leadership, Community and Resilience. Throughout their time in Year 7 and Year 8, and in addition to the range of activities that they do which already qualify for XLCR credit, pupils will be given the opportunity to take part in many events that have been designed specifically with XLCR in mind. Supporting in the school’s Pre-Prep, greater involvement in House administration, and additional trips and visits have all been specifically geared to provide greater opportunity for pupils to generate XLCR credit. Pupils are also free to volunteer information about their external exploits outside of school, all of which would be considered for inclusion and accreditation within the scheme.

The programme is an essential platform in recognising pupils’ contribution to Spratton Hall School life and reward them for being part of our unique educational environment. The award scheme is also valuable as it encourages and motivates pupils, giving them purpose beyond their academic journey. The XLCR booklet is also useful as a springboard to discussion during interviews at their prospective senior schools, pupils will be able to engage directly with their achievements and have a clear reference point that they can share during their visits.
