Rugby

Rugby is the main sport for boys in the Autumn Term. They start learning to play in Year 2, when they reach Year 4, they all have the opportunity to represent the school in regular matches.

Spratton Hall have established an excellent reputation over the years and the teams achieve excellent results due to the unwavering commitment and skills of the coaching staff, the fantastic training facilities and the determination of the boys themselves. At the end of the 2021 season, Spratton Hall were rated number 2 out of 280 schools in the schoolsrugby.com All Comers league.

Touch to Tackling

The boys start playing touch Rugby in Year 2, then learn how to tackle safely before moving on to full contact in Year 4. We strictly adhere to all guidance from the RFU to ensure that play is safe and fair. A touch rugby club is run each term for Years 6, 7 & 8. This is a fantastic way, to learn about game awareness, both on attack and defence and improve handling.

Tournaments and Tours

Spratton Hall annually attend the U13 IAPS and the U13 Dragon Festival, U11 Warwick, Stamford and Stowe Festivals, U10 Bilton Grange, Warwick and Radley Festivals. The U9 boys play in a range of festivals and triangulars, most recently, participating in the Stamford Festival. The Senior Boys also look forward to their 1st XIII and Year 8 Rugby Tour to Yorkshire. This is always a fun and exciting event both on and off the field.

Representation

Every year, pupils participate in trials for the Northampton Saints Development Programme. Players are often selected and it is great to see their progress through senior school and beyond. Toby Cousins was recently chosen for England U18, a year early. Quite a few past pupils are still in the Saints DPP or Tigers DPP. Spratton Hall has a good relationship with Northampton Saints and often have extra coaching in lessons.
